Accused of chopping his neighbour after a night of binge drinking, Mark Peters, 18, of Kwebanna Village in the North West District, was on Monday remanded to prison on a wounding charge.
Peters was not required to plead to the indictable charge that he, on February 7, at Four Miles Kwebanna, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Iona Daniels,
with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause her grievous bodily harm.
Daniels, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry heard, is a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
According to a police report on the attack that was read by Police Prosecutor Michael Grant, at about 00:30hrs on the day in question Daniels and Peters were binge drinking and consequently became heavily intoxicated. Sometime after, they went to Daniels’ sister-in-law, where they ended up in an argument. During the argument, Daniels allegedly picked up a piece of wood and lashed Peters several times about his body, causing him injuries. Peters, in turn, the court heard, left the home, returned with a cutlass, dealt Daniels several chops about her body and ran away. They were both later treated at the Kumaka District Hospital. Daniels was subsequently referred to the GPH, where she is still an admitted patient in stable condition.
Peters was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to the Acquero Magistrate’s Court.
