A man was on Tuesday sentenced to one year in jail after being found guilty of breaking and entering a vendor’s stall at Merriman Mall and stealing a quantity of articles.
Ozay Hamilton, 46, had denied that he, sometime between January 2 and January 3, broke into the stall of Sabrina Delph and stole a Tex Gas cylinder, valued at $10,000, 10 bottles of perfume, valued at $4,000, a baby cream, valued at $2,200, and a bottle of hand sanitizer, valued at $1,200. Hamilton said that he was in the vicinity of the stall selling a pound of grapes.
However, based on the evidence led by City Constabulary Prosecutor James Garnett during the trial, which ran from February 7 to February 11, Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond found Hamilton guilty. Delph and a security guard, who was on duty at the time of the theft, both testified at the trial.
