The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) received a timely shot in the arm yesterday when regional conglomerate Ansa McAL pledged its support for the International Goodwill tournament which boxes off tomorrow.
During a simple ceremony at the company’s headquarters at Beterver-wagting, Marke-ting Director, Troy Codgan presented a sponsorship cheque to president of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle to offset some of the expenses of the three-day, four-nation tournament which
will be staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
“We know it’s an expensive venture and Ansa McAL being the corporate citizens that we are is pleased to support this Goodwill series” said Codogan.
“We hope that this small gesture will help in a way to put those (boxers) on the road to the 2016 Olympic Games” he added
Ninvalle thanked Codogan on behalf of Ansa McAL and stated that the company “have always been a supporter of amateur boxing.”
He added “this shot in the arm is really needed.” The GBA head also revealed that some of this sponsorship “will go towards their (the local and visiting pugilists) encampment.”
Ninvalle also called on the boxing fraternity to support products of Ansa McAL
The three other nation’s competing with Guyana for the spoils of the tournament include Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia and Jamaica. The contingents are scheduled to arrive today and depart on Monday.
