Enterprise man on bail over wounding

An Enterprise man, who reportedly managed to elude the police for more than ten months, was on Wednesday placed on $100,000 bail after denying wounding another man.

Rakesh Mohabir, of Section ‘C’ Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Amir Khan on March 6, 2013, in Georgetown.

Prosecutor Michael Grant raised no objections to bail, which was subsequently set at $100,000. After the man’s bail was granted, Khan addressed the court, stating that his alleged attacker has several addresses known to him. The addresses, he said, are in Berbice and Enterprise, among other places. He added that these multiple addresses had enabled the defendant to evade capture.

However, the defendant denied the claims, saying that he had gone to the Brickdam Police Station himself to report that Khan had been threatening him.

Mohabir was granted bail on the condition that he report regularly to the police. The men will have their matter heard again on March 10, when statements will be filed.
