Two men, accused of stealing a length of cable from GT&T on Sunday, were placed on bail by the Chief Magistrate on Wednesday after they denied the crime.
Mohammed Hamid and Marvin Daniels were accused of stealing a length of cable, valued at $20,500, from GT&T on Sunday at Kingston, when they appeared in the city court.
Hamid, a mason residing at Lot 5 Fourth Street, Cummings Lodge, denied the charge along with Daniels, an unemployed Laluni Street resident.
Prosecutor Michael Grant raised no objections to bail.
The men’s lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat, requested that his clients be placed on their own recognisance and he suggested their inclusion in the Skills and Knowledge for Youth Employment (SKYE) project, which gets referrals from the court. However, 20-year-old Hamid was the only one eligible for the project. His co-defendant, at 33-years-old, was ineligible.
However, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry set bail at $30,000 for the men and ordered them to return to court on February 17 for reports and fixtures.
