Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket festival continued yesterday with matches in East Corentyne Berbice. Massiah, Corriverton, McGowan, Auchlyne, Cumberland, Fort Ordnance and Leeds were the latest teams to qualify for final places in their respective zones.
In the first game of the Upper Corentyne District Zone A played at Number 48 ground, Number 48 Primary went down to Number 56 Primary by 25 runs.
Batting first Number 56 made 113-6 before returning to bowl out Number 48 Primary for 88 runs.
In game two Number 48 Primary rebounded to defeat Number 59 by 18 runs.
Number 48 took first strike this time around and set a score of 126-4. Their bowlers ensured their victory by bowling out their opponents for 108.
In the final game of the Upper Corentyne Zone A saw Number 56 Primary (139-6 in their allotted overs) defeating Leeds Primary (77 all out).
At Number 71 Ground, Zone B of the Upper Corentyne District began with Crabwood restricting Skeldon Primary 95-7 but failing to reach their target when they were bowled out for 70.
Other results in Zone B included: Massiah Primary (116-8 in 12 overs) defeating New Market Primary (68 all out in 12 overs) by 48 runs; Corriverton Primary (155-7 in 12 overs) defeating Skeldon Primary (96 all out) by 59 runs in the semifinals.
The finals of the Upper Corentyne District will be contested on a date to be announced.
At All Saints Presbyterian Ground four games were played in the New Amsterdam/Canje Zone. In game one All Saints Primary defeated New Amsterdam by 67 runs. Batting first All Saints made 151-9 in their 12 overs, with Jared Fraser (20) and Daniel Narsiah, the top scorers.
In reply New Amsterdam Primary was bowled out for 84. Bowling for All Saints Brett Lee Fraser and Afia Heartman were the chief wicket takers with two wickets each.
The second game saw St Therese’s 122-8 holding the upper hand against Locabre 108-8. Johan Andrews and Kingsley Fullerton were the pick of the bowlers for St Therese’s with 3-11 and 2-2 respectively. Fullerton (11) completed a good all-round game for his team when he returned to make his highest score.
Sheet Anchor (58 all out in 12 overs) went down to Cumberland (117-8 in their allotted over) in game three.
The last game in the New Amsterdam/Canje district was Cumberland Primary School (125 all out in 12 overs) defeating Betsy Ground Primary (96 all out in 12 overs) by 29 runs.
Albion ground was the final stop for the competition in East Berbice Corentyne.
Preliminary matches saw Kildonan Primary (102-6) defeating Port Mourant (93-9) by 9 runs. McGowan Primary (173-4 in 12 overs) defeated Number 36 (101-5 in their 12 overs) by 72 runs. Tain (88-7) went down to Auchlyne (104-6) by 16 runs.
The final preliminary saw Albion Primary defeating Eversham. Batting first Albion made 124-5 and returned to bowl out their opponents for 108.
First semi-final was contested by McGowan and Kildonan Primary Schools. Batting first McGowan Primary made 117-9, Jason Leitch top scoring with 14. Kildonan in reply, was dismissed for 97, losing by 20 runs.
The final game of the day was the semi-final between Auchlyne and Albion Primary Schools. Taking first strike Auchlyne manage to score 142-4 from their allotted overs. Extras contributed 52 of their total.
In reply Albion was never on course to complete a victory, eventually being bowled out for 64 in their 12 overs. Shemar Blake, Shamindra Mahatoo and Shellona Bovell were the chief wicket takers with 4-13, 3-14 and 3-10 respectively.
The dates for the finals of the East Berbice Zone will be announced later.
