Dear Editor,
I had an issue with GPL during the year 2005. I surrendered my meter whilst living at Shieldstown, West Bank Berbice. For this I had to pay off all outstanding bills including a final reading charge, and the meter was removed. During 2008 under the unserved areas electrification programme I applied for GPL power, and was told I had to pay for the service. I explained that I was a customer with GPL. I was then instructed to pay for this new service and to apply for a deposit refund on my previous service.
I did this by submitting all documents at Onverwagt and was told my money would be refunded to me with interest. I subsequently returned to the office and was told that the claim had been returned and the interest was wrong. It had been calculated at simple interest and it should have been compound. It was then claimed it had been done again and forwarded to Georgetown.
Since then whenever I call the GPL official would say that it has not been returned. At the beginning of 2013 I was handed over to another official at the said office and I am still being told that the claim has not been returned. Editor, it has been over five years and I have not received my deposit refund. I am paying GPL, so why doesn’t GPL do the same and refund my money. (My deposit was $10,000.)
Yours faithfully,
Andrew Rambarran
