A 21-year-old man who was shot in the groin by a gunman during a robbery bid yesterday morning at Ogle, is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
Police said that around 9:15 am yesterday, Travis Edwards, 19 years, of Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Earl Deokarran, a 21 year old mason, of Ogle Front, ECD, were attacked by a man armed with a firearm while crossing a bridge at Ogle.
It was further stated that the attacker took away a gold chain from Edwards and shot Deokarran to his groin as he went to Edwards’ assistance.
Deokarran was subsequently admitted to the GPHC.
Edwards told this newspaper that he and Deokarran were heading to a barber shop at Ogle around 9:00am when they were attacked. He said that just as they were walking over a foot bridge to enter Pradoville, he felt someone grab onto his gold chain from behind.
Edwards said that he believes the man expected his chain to burst and he would have made good his escape with the item but he added that his chain did not break and he grabbed onto the perpetrator’s hands.
Deokarran who was walking some distance in front of him, heard the commotion and turned around in an attempt to assist his friend but was shot by the perpetrator. Edwards said after his friend was shot, the shooter started to point his gun at him but subsequently changed his mind and turned around and escaped through a nearby street without Edwards’ chain.
He added that Deokarran then got up and walked a short distance before collapsing at the corner of the road.
A resident of Pradoville then called out to him and assisted in taking Deokarran to the hospital and getting police ranks to take statements and visit the scene of the crime.
