The trial of Junior Henry and Baldeo Seegobin, who were accused of the murder of US-based businessman Ricardo Henriques, ended yesterday with the two men walking free after a two-week-long voir dire.
The duo who were on trial before Justice Navindra Singh were acquitted of the murder of Henriques.
Henry, of Lot 58 West Ruimveldt Estate, and Seegobin, of 97 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, were charged with the murder of Henriques, 31, of D’Urban Street, Werk-en-Rust, who was shot outside the Juice Power Snackette on Middle Street on November 28, 2008.
A third man, Philbert McPherson was also charged for the murder but was set free by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in April 2013 following a no-case submission by his lawyer Basil Williams at the preliminary inquiry.
Based on reports, Henriques was shot at point blank range by a man who ran up to him with a gun, pointed it to his head and shot him. The bandit then snatched a bag of cash he had in his possession.
The men were represented by attorneys at law Basil Williams and Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos while prosecutors Dhanika Singh and Mercedes Thompson presented the state’s case.
Williams had made a no-case submission in the voir dire. The no-case submission was accepted by the court.
