Former West Indies U19 captain Leon Johnson was yesterday named Captain of the Guyana 13-man squad to participate in the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Four-Day Tournament which bowls off on February 28 in Jamaica.
The West Indies ‘A’ batsman will have the experienced Shivnarine Chanderpaul as his deputy.
The squad contains no major surprise with all the experienced players such as Ramnaresh Sarwan, Narsingh Deonarine, Christopher Barnwell, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Assad Fudadin included.
The remaining players are Vishal Singh, Anthony Bramble, Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Ronsford Beaton and Keon Joseph included.
The Guyana squad will be engaged in a four-day warm-up match today against a Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Reserve team at the Guyana National stadium, starting at 10:00 hours.
Prior to this warm-up match, the players on the squad who were not a part of the Super50 squad, were encamped from February 5-7 which gave the selectors an opportunity to assess their fitness.
Meanwhile Chairman of GCB Senior Selection Panel Rayon Griffith advised that players not selected for the first round must continue to practice and stay fit for likely selection in future rounds of this year’s competition.
The team will depart these shores on February 25 for Jamaica where they will take on the defending champions Barbados in the first round on February 28.

The Manager is Alvin Johnson and the Coach is Esaun Crandon.
The Reserve players are: Rajendra Chandrika, Trevon Griffith, Robin Bacchus, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Royston Crandon, Rajiv Ivan, Jonathan Foo, Zaheer Mohamed, Anthony Adams, Jason Sinclair, Paul Wintz, Raun Johnson, Rayon Fredricks, Collis Butts, Andre Stoll and Ricardo Adams.
