Police this morning are investigating two murders in the city, one of which is a robbery/murder.
Divisional Commander George Vyphuis confirmed that the first murder occurred around 5:30 am in Albouystown and the victim has been identified as Vibert Samuels. He sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and so far the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear.
The second shooting, he said occurred around 8:30 am on Lombard Street and resulted in the death of money-changer Brijlall Persaud, 42 years, of Herstelling, EBD
Vyphuis told this newspaper that the details are sketchy and that ranks have been dispatched to both scenes to investigate.
In relation to the second shooting this newspaper was reliably informed that the money changer was approached by an armed bandit who later shot him and fled on a CG motor cycle. Security persons in the past have expressed concerns about this particular model of motor cycle. It is said to be one of the fastest small bikes and works well for the bandits especially when they are committing crimes in a crowded area or where there is a buildup of traffic.
