Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with stealing a car and replacing the licence plate.
Marvin Samaroo, 45, of 10 Number 2 Village, Berbice and Christian Ganga, 24, of Phoenix Park, West Bank of Demerara were not required to plead to the charge which alleged that they, on February 16, at Adelphi Village, stole motor vehicle PPP 3149. The vehicle, property of Jonathan Ricknauth, is valued at $1.2M.
The men were also charged with fraudulently placing another licence plate on the vehicle between February 16 and February 18 in East Canje Berbice. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
At their arraignment at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Prosecutor Deniro Jones raised objections to the men being granted a bail release, citing the nature of the offence as his reason. He further added that though investigations are incomplete, confession statements had been received. More charges are likely to be laid, Jones also said.
Prosecutor Jones also revealed to the court that Ganga had been previously charged and convicted.
Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded Samaroo and Ganga to prison until February 25, where they will make their next appearance in Court 1.
