A man was placed on $10,000 bail on Wednesday after he denied assaulting his wife last weekend.
When Michael Paul, 41, of 197 Oronoque Street, Queenstown, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty he denied that he assaulted Racquel Paul.
Michael explained to Magistrate Mc Gusty that he had returned from the interior the very day the alleged assault occurred. “I didn’t like the way I see things,” he said.
He told the court that after he and his wife went out and had drinks, they returned home and an argument ensued, which resulted in his wife leaving. He said he did not see his wife until early Sunday morning, when she arrived with police at the home.
Racquel, however, told the court that she left the home out of fear that her husband might seriously hurt her based on his behaviour. She added that he was pelting articles at her, including his cellphone and a rum bottle and lamp shade, and had her running all around the house, “I had to run out of that house,” she said.
At that moment, Michael looked at his wife in disbelief and said, “I glad fuh yuh, I happy,” and started weeping. He urged the woman to not go ahead with the charges against him for the sake of their seven-year-old child. But Racquel told the magistrate that she will be pursuing the matter, since her husband has been assaulting her for years.
After being told that Michael would be living at his mother’s residence at 52 Pike Street, Kitty, the magistrate granted him $10,000 bail with no objections from Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman.
The case will be called again at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on February 26.
