Burnett Hudson was granted a $500,000 bail release on Thursday after denying that he used his pick up to hit another man off his bicycle and then proceeded to beat him over stolen shoes.
Magistrate Judy Latchman in Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 3 heard that Hudson, 39, of 3662 Castello Housing Scheme, saw Marlon Dolphin, 26, of 286 Beverley Close, South Ruimveldt Gardens, wearing a pair of his shoes, the same day that he discovered that they and other footwear had gone missing.
Due to the allegation made against him by Hudson, Dolphin was charged with simple larceny. It was alleged that Dolphin, between December 10, 2013 and January 3, 2014, at North Ruimveldt, stole two pairs of Air Max sneakers, valued $70,000, and a pair of Prada slippers valued $45,000, belonging to Hudson.
According to Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth, on the night of December 10, 2013, Hudson secured the footwear on his steps and went to bed. On January 3, 2014, he made checks but discovered the items missing. Though the man made enquiries of his wife and son, no one had knowledge of what had happened to the shoes.
Later that day, Ricknauth said, Hudson was at Turning Point with a number of friends when he observed Dolphin wearing a pair of his shoes. Hudson confronted Dolphin, who claimed he bought the items from a man called ‘Tupac.’
The matter was reported and Dolphin was arrested but he denied the allegations.
A charge of causing bodily harm by wanton or furious driving was instituted against Hudson after a confrontation that happened several weeks after on February 14. It is the police’s case that Dolphin was riding his bicycle in a southern direction on Jackson Street, Tucville when Hudson drove up from behind in his pickup GPP 9260 and hit him. Dolphin fell to the ground, receiving injuries. Hudson then allegedly went over to Dolphin and dealt him several lashes about the body, all the while accusing the man of stealing his footwear.
Dolphin managed to escape and reported the matter to the police. Investigations were carried out and Hudson was subsequently charged.
Prosecutor Ricknauth raised no objections to bail for either of the defendants. Hence, Hudson’s bail was set at $500,000 while Dolphin’s bail was set at $150,000 bail. The duo are due to appear in court again on March 10 for statements.
