Dear Editor,
It seems to be again my misfortune to be in Guyana at the time when the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) publishes its Vacancy Notice with the usual (?) infelicities.
Could I, through you, invite the Chief Education Officer in his capacity as a member of the Teaching Service Commission, to look at the TSC advertisement in the Sunday Stabroek of February 16, 2014 and consider the following five issues?
1. What is the closing date for the original of each application from a teacher serving in a School Board School, to reach the School Board Secretariat?
2. In the context of the wording of Clause 2 and Clause 3, on what form should an applicant for a vacant headship of a Nursery, Primary or Secondary School or a Practical Instruction Centre (all of Grade C or below) apply?
3. Because offer letters are sent out to reach schools before schools close for the August holidays, how can the TSC implement the threat as worded in Clause 7?
4. Because a teacher is required to submit the original of his/her application to the Headteacher, what is the mechanism in place to give practical effect to the mandatory instruction in Clause 13?
5. Would he kindly consider the deletion of Clause 6 and its replacement (after minor editing) by the paragraph that next follows Clause 14?
There are other matters; but these should do for now.
Yours faithfully,
George N Cave
