National road race champion Raynauth Jeffrey emerged winner of the fifth LFS Burnham Mashramani two-stage road race on Sunday besting a field of Guyana’s best wheelsmen.
After finishing third in both stages and posting a total time of three hours, 52 minutes and 47 seconds, the Team Coco’s Club standout was awarded first place in the event which is staged annually to commemorate the former president’s birth anniversary.
Jeffrey, led his club mate Michael Anthony, Team United’s Hamzah Eastman, Linden Bauxite Flyers, Shaquel Agard, his other club mate, Junior Niles and Godfrey Pollydore into the top six paid overall positions.
It was Jeffrey’s first win of the season.
The first stage pedaled off in Linden and concluded on Homestretch Avenue and was won by Continental Cycle Club’s Geron Williams in two hours, 52 minutes and eight seconds. Roraima Bikers Club, Alanzo Greaves placed second while Anthony, Eastman and Agard placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Niles took the spoils of the second stage which started at Ocean View Hotel to Belfield and back in exactly one hour.
He was followed by top veteran Pollydore, Jeffrey, Eastman, Alonzo Ambrose, and Agard.
Niles was also the overall winner of the Veteran’s under-50 category while Anthony, another product of the Team Coco’s unit was the overall winner of the junior category to record a sweep of the top honors.
