The KFC outlet in Bagotstown was robbed early yesterday morning, when the security guard on the night shift claimed he went in search of a washroom.
Operation manager of KFC/Pizza Hut Mahindra Persaud said that the fast food outlet was robbed in excess of $700,000 from Monday’s sales. He said that the robbers stole the safe and removed the DVR system.
He related that when the branch manager Onika Jervis arrived at the building around 7:30am yesterday,
she saw the office door open and the safe missing. Persaud stated that the robbers had to torch the safe in order to remove it from the wall.
Persaud explained that the outlet closed around 12:30 am yesterday, leaving the security guard alone there. He added that the guard was arrested and taken to the Providence Police Station.
Persaud said the guard told the police that he had left the building around 4:30 am to use a washroom nearby.
“We are not sure if what he said was true. But sometime around that time the safe went missing,” Persaud said, while adding that the robbers pried the home delivery window open to enter the building.
