This year Guyanese should demand from all elected officials that they fulfil their mandates

Dear Editor,

The Upper Demerara Branch of the Guyana Teachers Union takes this opportunity to extend on behalf of all teachers of our beloved country, best wishes to all Guyanese locally and abroad as we celebrate our 44th Anniversary as a Co-operative Republic.

Let all of us aspire as a nation to work collectively as a united people in achieving shared common interests and aspirations aimed at developing all regions, towns, communities and the country as a whole.

In this 44th celebration let us as a people of six races recommit our energies, visions and efforts in trying to achieve the ideal engraved in the memory of every Guyanese and carved in the beginning of our new nation, the motto, ‘One People, One Nation, One Destiny.’

As teachers who support the view that 2014 should be the year of the workers, be it sugar workers, farmers, public servants, and all others who contribute to the nation’s Consolidated Fund by paying their taxes, it should also be the year where Guyanese demand from all elected officials that they honour the people in service by fulfilling the mandates they were elected to carry out for all people, irrespective of race, religion, geographical location or political persuasion.

One love, peace and prosperity to all Guyanese on our 44th anniversary.

Yours faithfully,
Jermaine Figueira
Chairman
