Ramdass batting for national side recall

Former West Indies Test opener Ryan Ramdass continues to signal his intention for a recall to the national side by consistently churning out runs for his adopted Trinidad & Tobago Clarke Road Cricket Club over the past few weeks.

The right-hander last represented his country back in 2006 but only managed to play a few games due to injuries to his shoulder and knees which required surgery.

He made his comeback to the local scene last year during the Senior Inter-county four-day tournament where he represented

second-place winners, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President’s XI with a few half-centuries.

The 30-year-old who played one ODI and one Test for the West Indies against Sri Lanka back in 2005, then applied his trade over in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago this year where he has so far been among the runs in both the limited overs and the longer formats.

The opener began his good form by grafting an unbeaten 119 against Mosai Sports club in a two-day match, finding support from another Guyanese player in Rajiv Ivan who chipped in with a half-century. He continued his good run by scoring 54 against the same club in the Trinidad & Tobago Premier Division 50-over tournament.

Playing against the Powergen Club this past week in a 2-day match, Ramdass who was dismissed for 1 in the first innings returned with confidence in the second to score 60 in vain, as his team eventually lost the match.

During an invited comment via social media, Ramdass told Stabroek Sports that his main aim is to continue his current run-spree which he hopes can propel him into the 4-day squad. “I just need to make runs to impress the National Selectors to get a call up to the side again”.

“I’m mature enough, fit, injury-free and I have not yet given up because I know that I have lots more to offer to my country apart from the genuine love for the game” said Ramdass.

He also explained that he is not intimidated by the fact that the current Guyana team is filled with quality batsmen as he strongly believes that he can still significantly contribute to the teams batting.
