The guard who was held after the robbery of the KFC Bagotstown outlet early Tuesday morning is now free.
Police are continuing their investigation into the robbery, where over $700,000 in cash was stolen from the outlet, while the security guard claimed he went to find a washroom.
Operations manager of KFC/Pizza Hut Mahindra Persaud told Stabroek News that the security officer was released from the Providence Police Station after they were unable to pin him to robbery. He added that they discovered that the guard was drinking on his shift.
The KFC outlet was robbed early Tuesday morning of a DVR system and in excess of $700,000 from their Monday’s sale.
According to Persaud, the outlet closed around 12:30 am on Tuesday, leaving the security guard alone there. Persaud said that when the branch manager Onika Jervis arrived at the building around 7:30am on Tuesday, she saw the office door open and the safe missing. He added that the bandits had to torch the safe in order to remove it from the wall. The bandits pried the home delivery window open to enter the building.
Persaud had said the guard told the police that he had left the building around 4:30 am to use a washroom nearby.
