Oumesh Ballram, the 16-year-old shot during a home invasion at Number 69 Village, will be undergoing surgery tomorrow for the removal of the warhead lodged in his back.
Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) had informed his parents last week that they could not operate on him.
Gurdial Ballram, the teen’s father, told Stabroek News last evening that he was told by the hospital that doctors will perform
surgery to remove the bullet on Friday. After that surgery is done, Gurdial said a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan is to be done to assess potential damage to his son’s spine.
He told this newspaper that his son is unable to move his legs, and because the bullet is causing a blurred MRI scan, only after the bullet is removed can an accurate diagnosis be made.
The concerned father said all he is hoping for is his son’s full recovery and his ability to sit this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
Oumesh, meanwhile, is an admitted patient in the High Dependency Unit at the GPH.
A suspect in the shooting was held but has been released on station bail.
