An attacking batting display by Elian Rampersaud led Vreed-en-Hoop Primary School to a comprehensive victory over Two Brothers in the latest action of the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Festival at Wales ground West Bank Demerara yesterday.
It was the final game of the day in the West Bank Demerara district, but it was filled with entertainment from beginning to end.
The other schools that competed in the earlier games were first treated to spectacular fielding by Vreed-en-Hoop’s fielders,
especially the three catches that were taken by the star performer of the day Rampersaud.
Batting first, Two Brothers Primary were restricted to 96 all out in 10 overs of which extras contributed 18 and Daniel Jordan making 11. Bowling for Vreed-en-Hoop Faith Ann Walcott and Shaun Patterson took four and three wickets respectively.
In their turn at the crease Vreed-en-Hoop who benefited from 24 extras, managed to score 151-7 from their 10 overs, with hard hitting Rampersaud making 15 off six deliveries to guide his team to a 57-run victory.
Daniel Jordan and Lidya Atkinson were the chief wicket takers with two wickets each.
Earlier in the day, game one was contested between La Grange and Mc Gillvaray primary schools, with Mc Gillivray winning by 10 runs. La Grange took first strike and were restricted to 119-8, with Jamal Frank top scoring with 11 runs. Narine Etwaroo, Daniel Grant and Anjali Ram were the chief bowlers for their team with two wickets each. In reply Mc Gillivray lost six wickets at the end of their 10 overs scoring 129 runs. La Grange’s bowlers bowled poorly delivering 20 extras. Only Surendra Bikhram bowled well to finish with figures of 2-0.
Wales Primary defeated Malgre Tout Primary by 10 runs in the day’s second game. Wales batted first scoring 164-4, with Ravi Ragnauth and Shaun Paul scoring 13 and 10 runs respectively. Although they were aided by 30 extras Malgre Tout could only manage 154-5 when their overs ended.
Belle West Primary School (146-6 in their 10 overs) registered a victory over Goed Fortuin (140 all out in 10 overs) by six runs in the third game of the day.
East Bank zone finals commenced with Central East Bank district champion Supply (174 in 10 overs) defeating Upper East Bank district champion Timehri (137 in their 10 overs) by 37 runs.
