Guyanese designer Michelle Cole has been named the Young Gifted and Black Entrepreneurial Awards Designer of the Year.
On February 23 she received an award from the New York body at an event hosted at the LG NY on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
According to a press release, the YGB Awards place emphasis on individuals who continue to reach levels of success through hard work and determination. There is no formal selection, rather the award is given after peer-to-peer acknowledgement and appreciation of an individual’s drive for success outlined by where the recipient has come from in life to become an ambassador of the entrepreneurial spirit.
The YGB Awards is held in honour of Black History Month and it recognizes talent, ambition and achievements toward the ‘Continued Pursuit of Success’. It honorees are African-American & Caribbean professionals who are unsung heroes in their communities.
Michelle Cole is the owner of Colefacts, a fashion designing company she started in 2000 while living in Guyana. She now resides in the United States. According to the release, her love for natural fabrics and hand-designed painted and decorated fabrics that are not only comfortable but fashionable stands out. Michelle’s designs have graced the stages of international fashion shows and pageants.
She is currently serving as pageant director of the Miss World Guyana 2014 pageant, which is slated for May 26 in Guyana.
