Two fishermen/boat owners of Rosignol, West Bank Berbice are distressed about losing of their outboard engines valued almost $900,000 each.
Harry Ramnarine told Stabroek News that during last week he and the other fisherman, ‘Rangasammy,’ showed up at the three-door sluice at D’ Edward and discovered the engines missing.
According to him, all the fishermen in that vicinity would moor their boats with the engines attached at that spot. This is the first time engines were removed.
The watchman on duty was apparently sleeping and could not say what happened. He was taken into custody and subsequently released. The police have not made any other arrests.
Ramnarine said he and Rangasammy have been unable to send their boats out at sea and as such are suffering further losses. They are also worried about how to acquire the cash to replace the engines.
