The Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) will join with 60 other members of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to celebrate World Tennis Day.
A press release from the GTA says that like last year, the GTA will stage fun related activities at the National Racquet Centre at Camp and Woolford Avenue.
The activities will involve clinics for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.
There will also be exhibition matches by Guyana’s top juniors, while like last year, GTA president Ramesh Seebarran is expected to deliver a pep talk to the youngsters. At least 10 primary schools will be invited and the activities are scheduled for 9:00am to 11:30am for children aged 5 to 14-years-old.
The GTA, the release stated, will also open its doors to the adult public during the afternoon session in a bid to encourage more adults to adopt the sport as a form of exercise. The adult session will start at 1:00pm and end at 4:00pm and it will include cardio tennis drills “which combine the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise as a high energy exercise regime that is useful for persons wishing to lose weight and improve their health and well being,” stated the release.
The ITF in an effort to promote the game around the world, last year launched the annual event in partnership with StarGames, a multinational tennis partner who will once again this year organize the three exhibition match showdowns which will be held in New York, Hong Kong and London tomorrow.
The GTA, stated the release, invites the general public to participate in this event as the association will also use the opportunity to provide information on coaches and their club programmes for interested persons who wish to start playing tennis.
