Reports are that the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) driver who was involved in the hit and run accident which took the life of Claude McPherson turned himself over to the police yesterday.
This newspaper was made to understand that the driver turned himself in with an attorney. Family members of McPherson said police officers took the driver to the scene of the accident on Mandela Avenue.
On February 27, McPherson, known as ‘Chippy’, of 169 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, was struck while crossing the road from his food stall. He was on his way home to collect his cellular phone when he was hit.
The post-mortem examination revealed that McPherson died as a result of multiple injuries.
McPherson’s sister, June Seaford, had said his neck was broken, his spinal cord was fractured in three places and all his ribs were broken. She said in addition that he suffered a severe open fracture of his hip and severe head injuries.
The man, who was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after the accident, succumbed while being treated.
