A burglar who was caught red-handed was yesterday sentenced to a year in prison after he admitted to stealing $20,000 worth of electronic equipment from a Mayor and City Council (M&CC) worker.
Carl Trudor, 42, who broke and entered the M&CC Compact Disk Room at the Stabroek Market on February 27, and stole Rawle Paul’s cellphone, valued at $9,000 and radio, valued at $11,000, was caught as he was leaving with the booty.
According to M&CC Prosecutor James Garnett, Paul had left the room secure around 10.30 am to pick up his daughter at her school. Garnett said that upon Paul’s return, Trudor was exiting with his spoils. Paul held on to Trudor and took him to the City Constabulary Enforcement Unit that is housed in the Stabroek Fire Station building, where he was handed over to a constable. He was later charged.
For not wasting the court’s time, Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond sentenced Trudor to the minimum sentence for the crime.
