Stephen Lewis was elected unopposed as president of the Everest Cricket Club when the body held its Annual General Meeting Friday night last at the club’s pavilion.
Former president Rajesh Singh and Carnachand Rambarran were elected senior vice president and junior vice presidents respectively. Manichan Rai occupies the position of secretary while Paul Parsram will be assistant secretary. Royston Rachpaul will serve as treasurer with the assistant secretary/treasurer being Anthony Ramprasad.
Saheed Mohamed will function as club captain and the committee members are Harry Yankana, Mohamed Azeez, Mark Singh and Looknauth Persaud.
Simultaneously the club’s awards ceremony was held. Current national player Amir Khan was adjudged the club’s Cricketer-of-the-Year while left arm spinner Javed Rasheed was adjudged the best bowler of the year.
Hard hitting batsman Troy Gonsalves was named batsman of the year.
The emerging player of the year trophy was presented to Darshan Persaud while Johnny Azeez took the masters bowler of the year prize and Hemraj Garbarran the batsman of the year award in the said division.After being elected president, Lewis thanked the members for their confidence and lauded the past president and executive for their stewardship.
He called on the members for their support and urged his fellow executive members to work as a unit for the development of the club, adding that the organisation will host a number of activities in 2014 to mark their 100th anniversary.
Past president Rajesh Singh also praised the members for their support during his term as president and urge the cricketers present to take the game seriously.
