Young left-handers Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Chandrapaul Hemraj will replace their senior counterparts Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan who have been ruled out of the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) Regional four-day second round match against Barbados at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
According to an official press release from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), the former West Indies captains, who missed the first round encounter against Jamaica which ended yesterday due to injuries, have been officially ruled out of the team’s home game against the defending champions which bowls off on March 7-10.
The in-form Tagenarine, son of Shivnarine recently returned from the Under-19 Limited Overs World Cup where he represented the West Indies, ending as one of the team’s most consistent batsmen registering two half-centuries and a century.
He will now have to switch gears as he prepares for the longer format.
Meanwhile, Hemraj, who has three first-class matches under his belt, spent valuable time at the High Performance Centre (HPC) last year before returning home where he was selected to be a part of the provisional four-day make-up.
He will add patience and stability to what is a weakened Guyana middle-order which fared poorly in the first innings against Jamaica when the team was routed for a paltry 117.
The team was dealt its first major blow when originally appointed skipper Leon Johnson sustained a Grade Two tear to his knee during the team’s final practice game and is currently recovering ahead of the other rounds.
The Guyana team reads: Sewnarine Chattergoon, Assad Fudadin, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Narsingh Deonarine, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Anthony Bramble, Christopher Barnwell (Captain), Amir Khan, Veerasammy Permaul (Vice-Captain), Devendra Bishoo, Ronsford Beaton, Keon Joseph and Vishal Singh.
The Manager is Alvin Johnson and the Coach is Esaun Crandon, while Julian Moore will join the team as the Assistant Coach.
