Female golfer Shonel Webster captured first prize in the ECI Engineering Services sponsored one-day golf tournament held last Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club course.
Playing off a 34 handicap, the rapidly improving Webster shot a net 63 handily beating the rest of the field. President of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Alfred Mentore, who seems as good with the club as he was with the bat during his National Under-19 days, placed second with a net 69, one shot ahead of four other players who all recorded the same score and another logjam of players on net 71.
After some calculations as to who had a better back-nine score, third place went to Avinash Persaud (73 gross, net 70), while female national golf champion, Christine Sukhram, placed fourth with (79 gross net 70) and Fazil Haniff (83 gross net 70) fifth. The Best Gross went to Persaud while the Nearest to the Pin prize was won by Mentore. In remarks at the presentation, Shaneeza Lochan, the customer service associate of ECI, Friendship, East Bank Demerara, expressed support for the club.
In turn club PRO William Walker thanked ECI for the generous sponsorship while also acknowledging club member Matti Wesslin whose company Wartsila is working with ECI to construct a new generating plant on the West Coast.
