A fire of unknown origin on Tuesday gutted the home of a Lower Pomeroon River woman destroying all her belongings.
The fire reportedly started at around 19:40 hrs at Beverly David’s Grant Bel Air, Friendship Canal, Lower Pomeroon River residence. According to the 19-year-old housewife, her reputed husband, with whom she lives, is in the interior and she was at the home of her parents when the incident occurred.
David said she left her home intact around 18:00 hrs and went over to her parents’ home which is about ten rods east of her house. She added that about an hour later, she heard a loud sound as if something had fallen, coming from the direction of her house. “When I look, I see my house on fire,” David said.
David and her parents formed a bucket brigade and tried to put out the fire but were unable to do so; the entire house was destroyed.
“My bed and TV and music set burn up. All me gas stove and clothes and everything else I lost. All that I leave with is the clothes that I had on,” she lamented.
David is seeking the assistance of the public as she is clueless as to her next move.
Meanwhile, as a result of investigations by the police at Charity, a man who lives in the same area as David, was arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
David’s house was the second one destroyed in Essequibo over the last several days. On Friday last, a fire suspected to be arson, left a Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast fisherman and his reputed wife homeless.
Dhanniram Chattergoon and Gomattie Ramroop told this publication that on Friday night they were at a relative’s home watching when someone told them that their house was burnt to ashes.
Chattergoon had loudly proclaimed that he suspected his former lover had burned down the house, stating that she had threatened him in the past. The woman was arrested, but later released by the police. Investigations are ongoing.
