A Croal Street Georgetown man, who allegedly robbed another man on the Essequibo Coast of jewellery, a cell phone and $13,900 was yesterday remanded to prison.
The police alleged that on March 5, Keyon Davis, a labourer, went into the dwelling of Gordon Williams at Perseverance, Essequibo Coast and stole the items mentioned above, worth an estimated $3.8 million.
Davis, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of burglary read to him by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court, was not represented. According to the facts, on March 5 at around 04:45 hrs, Williams awoke and found that his home had been broken into. A man was seen in the house and Williams confronted him but he managed to escape.
On checking, Williams realized that his jewellery, cash and a cell phone were missing. The matter was reported to the police and as a result of investigations, Davis was apprehended at Parika, East Bank Essequibo and was positively identified by Williams. Most of the stolen items were recovered.
Police Prosecutor Khrisnadatt Ramana objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence and Davis was remanded to prison until April 3.
