Oumesh Ballram, the Berbice teen who was shot two weeks ago during an attempted robbery at his house, was released from hospital on Thursday.
But with Ballram, 16, still without feelings in his legs, his family is still trying to access further treatment for him in the United States.
The boy is still on the road to recovery at his home after being discharged
from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) following the successful removal of a bullet that was lodged in his chest.
Oumesh’s father, Gurdial Ballram told Sunday Stabroek that his son is trying to regain his strength. He said that Oumesh is still unable to feel his legs.
But the hopeful father told this publication that relatives are scouting for a doctor in the United States to treat Oumesh. He said too that the Ministry of Health is aiding the procurement of a US visa.
As for sitting the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations in May/June, the father said that prospect is now out of the question. He said the family thought it best for Oumesh to write the examinations when he is in much better health.
The lad was shot on February 20, at his 69 Village home by a gunman who is believed to have mistakenly targeted the boy thinking it was his father.
Investigations into the shooting ongoing.
