The nation-wide club championships currently being held by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) to determine the country’s top club will continue today with the quarter-final matches involving the top teams of Georgetown and Linden.
The tournament which involved 16 teams from three sub associations, Linden, Georgetown and Berbice, is at the last eight stage and will feature only teams from Linden and Georgetown as the Berbice clubs have all been booted after play last weekend.
Billed as the Road to Mecca, the tournament will also be used as a yardstick to select players to prepare for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships, in the British Virgin Islands, from July 1-12.
In today’s quarter-finals Dyna’s Ravens will clash with Trinity Grid Holdings Pacesetters in a clash of the city teams while two Linden teams,
Kings and Retrieve Raiders are also down to do battle.
In the other quarter final matches Georgetown’s Colts and Pepsi Sonics will meet while Linden’s second seeded, Amelia’s Ward Jets and third seeded Victory Valley Royals.
The matchups of Linden teams versus Linden teams and city teams versus city teams has paved the way for a Linden/Georgetown final.
The semifinals will take place next Sunday at the same venue.
