Several Members of Parliament were on Friday engaged in an outreach programme in Region Two (Pomeroon/ Supenaam) aimed at educating students about the role and work of the Parliament.
The MPs visited several schools along the Essequibo Coast including Taymouth Manor Primary, CV Nunes Primary, Cotton Field Secondary and Anna Regina Secondary.
Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Baksh, who addressed the students gathered in the auditorium of the Anna Regina Secondary School, told them that it was important for each person to be serious as to what they want in life.
“I’m imploring each of you to take life seriously and learn to be better persons in life. Educate yourself about the government and the parliament and always have a good mind and do things with good intentions because our country and society need you,” Baksh said.
There was an interactive session during which students were engaged and eagerly responded to the questions asked by the Members of Parliament.
MP Dharamkumar Seeraj, who is also General Secretary of the Rice Producers Association, said the outreach was initiated to keep students involved in the progress of the country and also to develop the educational aspect of their lives.
The outreach programme, which is ongoing in various regions under the theme ‘Bringing Parliament to Life for Young People’, is the brainchild of Speaker of the House Raphael Trotman.
