PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein had a match haul of 11 for 67 to steer Trinidad and Tobago to a comprehensive 186-run victory over Windward Islands in their second round Regional Four-Day Championship at the Queen’s Park Oval yesterday.
Chasing 310 for victory, the Windwards were bowled out for 124 with Hosein bagging 5 for 34, Imran Khan 3 for 16 and Shannon Gabriel 2-19.
It was Hosein’s second five-wicket haul in the match as he snarled 6 for 33 in the Windwards’ first innings total of 122.
It was another valiant effort by West Indies opener Devon Smith who topscored with 55 for the Windward Islands. Only three other batsmen – Alston Bobb (14), Nelon Pascal (11) and Dalton Polius (10) – reached double figures.
When Smith was removed for the seventh wicket, Trinidad & Tobago was closing in on victory as only 21 runs were added for the remaining three wickets.
Resuming from an overnight 127 for 7 and a lead of 227 runs, Trinidad & Tobago were bowled out for 210 in their second innings.
Darren Bravo, added only 12 to his overnight 57 and Yannic Cariah fell one short of a half century. Khan (25) and Marlon Richards (21) provided useful batting support.
Kenroy Peters (3-37), Nelon Pascal (3-40) and Delorn Johnson (2-24) picked up key wickets for the Windwards.
T&T relied on their first innings hero Hosein and claimed the victory and maximum points after 42.1 overs, as Windwards crashed for paltry 124 runs.
