Two Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) agents were yesterday granted bail after they both denied that they obtained $150,000 in exchange for a positive inspection on a vehicle.
On March 6, at the GNBS’ offices in the Sophia Exhibition Centre Compound, Quincy Gibson, 27, of 20 Co-op Society Road, Soesdyke and David Denny, 29, of 849 Section A Lot X, Diamond Housing Scheme
allegedly offered to approve Ramona Spencer’s motor vehicle without its inspection.
The vehicle, the charge read, was for the transportation of fuel for Spencer.
According to reports, the racket was reported to the police and a sting was set up to catch the defendants in the act.
Both Gibson and Denny, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Michael Grant raised no objections to bail. However, he requested that Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry order that the men report regularly to a police officer.
Neither of the men’s lawyers protested the request. As a result, they were granted bail in the sum of $150,000 on the condition that they report to Police Corporal Narine every fortnight starting March 28.
Gibson and Denny will return to court for the continuation of the proceedings on April 8.
