A 14-year-old girl of Unity, Mahaica remains in a serious condition after she was struck down by a vehicle on the Unity Public Road yesterday.
Esther Mohammed, a student of the La Bonne Intention Secondary sustained severe head injuries and had her hip broken in two places. She was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state.
Up to late last evening, Mohammed’s mother Geeta Singh told Stabroek News that her daughter was yet to be taken to the Intensive Care Unit. “They jus have she downstairs and every minute they telling we that they gon carry she upstairs,” the distraught woman said. Singh said that her daughter was only moving one of her eyes and her feet.
The woman said that she was told that her daughter was crossing the road on her bike when “a vehicle come and pick she up and she land on she left side on the road.”
Singh added that the driver of the vehicle is currently in police custody at the Mahaica Police Station.
