A sterling all-round performance from Mahesh Persaud steered Wales Community Development Centre Cricket Club (WCDC) to the West Demerara Cheddi Jagan Memorial T20 cricket competition title after the team secured wins in their semi-final and final matches played last Sunday.
In the semi-final, contested at the Wales Community Centre, Wales made light work of the Sisters Village Sports Club team defeating them by 8-wickets. Batting first Sisters Village were all out for 110 runs in 17.4 overs with Zafar Khan slamming three fours and a six in his top score of 31. He received support from Navindra Rankin who scored 22 with two boundaries.
Bowling for WCDC Ramesh Takur and Ray Richards captured three and two wickets respectively.
In reply, Wales CDC marched to their total in 9.3 overs losing only two wickets in the process. Persaud carved four fours and two sixes in his top score of 42, while Shakam Takur assisted with a quick-fire 21 inclusive of one six and three fours.
In the final Wales again came out on top defeating Canal #2 Sports Club by 8-wickets. Wales won the toss and sent in Canal SC to bat. They managed 126 all out in 19.4 overs thanks mainly to Devin Roopnarine and Michael Persaud who scored 33 and 22 respectively, as Chandrika Persaud, Persaud and Takur each captured two wickets.
In reply Wales CDC scored 129 for the loss of two wickets in 16.3 overs. Persaud dominated the bowling scoring 56 with six fours and four massive sixes and was rightfully adjudged MVP for the short tournament.
