West Berbice scored an outright victory over New Amsterdam/Canje despite losing first innings, in the first round of the Berbice Cricket Board/ National Communication Network Under-15 Inter Zone competition at Cumberland ground yesterday.
Scores in the match: West Berbice 89-4, 38 overs; Javed Karim 39 and Seon Glasgow 37 not out, Junior Williams 2-13 and 141 all out, 56 overs, Kris Ramnarine 53 and Javed Karim 31, Kevin Sinclair 6-38. New Amsterdam/ Canje 97-9, 38 overs, Kevin Sinclair 48 not out, Nicholas Shevrattan 3-4 and Sachin Veersammy 3-17, and 121 all out, Sinclair 41, Seon Glasgow 3-18 and Kris Ramnarine 3-37.
West Berbice resuming on their overnight score of 75-3 in 20 overs, saw batsmen Kris Ramnarine and Javed Karim adding another 35 runs early in the day. With the removal of Karim for 31 and the score on 120-4, West Berbice lost wickets quickly with only Ramnarine batting patiently before being removed for 53. They were eventually bowled out for 141 in 56 overs.
Kevin Sinclair took 6-38 from 20 overs for New Amsterdam/Canje, who were bowled out for 121 in their second innings, with Sinclair being their main scorer. Alex Algoo and Brandon Stewart were the only other batsmen to make it to double figures, supporting Sinclair with 16 each. Bowling for West Berbice, left arm orthodox bowler Kris Ramnarine and off spinner Seon Glasgow took three wickets each to take their team to an 11 runs victory.
The competition continues today and tomorrow with Lower Corentyne Clashing Upper Corentyne at the Albion Community Development Centre ground.
