At about 1245h. today, the police say that one of their ranks responded to a report received of a suspicious-looking man on the roadway at ‘C’ Field, Sophia.
As the police approached in an unmarked vehicle, the man was observed to be armed with a firearm and in the process of attempting to rob a woman on the roadway, police said.
The police challenged the man who discharged a round in the direction of the ranks and they returned fire.
The man was hit to his left shoulder and rib area and is presently receiving medical treatment at the GPHC.
He has been identified as Keron Cummings, 24 years, of Sophia, and he was arrested after jumping into a nearby canal in which was found an unlicensed .38 revolver with 3 live rounds and a spent shell.
