Army outflanks Western Tigers

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) edged BK Western Tigers by a 1-0 margin when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Premier League continued on Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.

Following a goalless opening half, midfielder Eusi Phillips opened the score in the 65th minute with a sublime strike.

Deployed in the heart of the midfield, Phillips unleashed a 28-yard right-footed volley that flew into the lower right-hand corner of the net, giving Western Tigers custodian Derick Carter simply no chance.

The army unit almost doubled their advantage eight minutes later when a Selwyn Isaacs right-footed free-kick from just outside the centre of the box was acrobatically parried to safety by the outstretched hands of the West Ruimveldt unitโ€™s custodian.

Carter was again in action in the 83rd minute as he denied forward Sherwin Caesar brilliantly in a one-on-one situation from within the centre of the penalty box, after the speedy attacker was played in by a Delwyn Fraser pass.
