Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph United defeated Linden’s Winners Connection 5-4 on kicks from the penalty mark after normal time ended 1-1 when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Premier League continued on Wednesday.
Hosted at the Georgetown Football Club ground in Bourda, the East Coast side broke the early stalemate in the 16th minute compliments of an Akin Curry attempt.
Racing into the right side of the 18-yard box to receive a through pass, Curry struck his right-footed effort past the advancing Linden shot-stopper to the lower left hand corner of the net.
With the scores unchanged going into the second period, veteran midfielder Rawle Gittens levelled proceedings for the Linden outfit in the 53rd minute.
Latching onto a perfectly played lobbed through-pass from the centre of the midfield, Gittens lobbed the advancing goalkeeper with his right footed strike, from within the centre of the penalty area.
During the remaining minutes of the fixture, the East Coast side prevailed over their Linden counterparts, netting a perfect five from the penalty mark in as many attempts to seal the hard-fought win.
In the opening fixture, the Guyana Defence Force defeated BK Western Tigers by a 1-0 margin.
