2012 Olympian, Winston George booked a place in today’s final of the men’s 400m of the ongoing South American Games in Santiago, Chile after finishing second in the semis yesterday.
George clocked 46.57 in the event which was won by Brazil’s Anderson Freitas who stopped
the clock one second faster (45.57s).
Guyana’s other representative in the quarter mile event, Wayne Harlequin ran a pedestrian 49.14s and placed sixth (last) in the other semi-final.
Sprint queen, Alisha Fortune will be in action today while distance athletes, Cleveland Thomas and Cleveland Ford as well as the pugilists will compete tonight.
Fortune will contest the Women’s 100m Semi Finals at 14:10hrs. Ford and Thomas will run in the Men’s 1500m final at 19:00hrs. Prior to those events George will lace it up for the 400m final at 13:20hrs.
Boxing
Dennis Thomas and Eon Bancroft will take the ring against Jorge Viva of Colombia and Gabriel Maestre of Venezuela respectively beginning from 19:00hrs.
The other pugilist, Theresa London will spring into action against Brazil’s Flavia Tereza tomorrow.
