Magistrate Clive Nurse sentenced a 30-year-old man to nine months jail after he admitted the charge of simple larceny when he appeared in the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court.
According to the facts of the case, on Friday March 7, Julio Gibson, of Lot 109 Well Road, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, stole a Docol gas bottle valued $10,000 and a pair of black Nike slippers valued $1,000, at Central Amelia’s Ward. The items were the property of Gillian Griffith.
In his defence, Gibson told the court that he committed the offence while intoxicated and apologised to the plaintiff. “I will not do it ever again,” he pledged.
When the prosecution asked Gibson if he had previously been arrested, the man said he had been charged “for borrowing” and fined $10,000.
The court also heard that Gibson had also been charged, along with other persons, with simple larceny on November 24, 2013.
