The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has said that the engine overhaul maintenance works at the Anna Regina Wartsila generating plant have been completed and it is working on realising longer term development plans to provide the best quality electricity supply in Essequibo.
Rigorous works had been conducted on the plant from February 27 to March 12 on the Number 1 Wartsila Unit, disrupting power supply to residents of Onderneeming to Supernaam and from Devonshire Castle to Charity. In a press release, the company said its longer term development plans for Essequibo extends beyond engine overhauls for existing infrastructure.
In the latter half of this year, GPL intends to complete the foundations for a new 4 MW HFO fired unit at Anna Regina and the foundations for a new 3 x 2 MW HFO fired power station at Bartica. The company also proposes to install and commission two new 500 kVA generating sets at Leguan, and one new 500 kVA set at Wakenaam with a view to providing a 24-hour-per-day, seven days per week service.
