Guyana’s track and field representatives at the ongoing South American Games in Santiago, Chile, Winston George, Alicia Fortune, Cleveland Thomas and Cleveland Forde all failed to medal in their respective events on Friday.
While George missed the podium with a fourth place finish in the men’s 400m, Fortune placed sixth (last) in the women’s 100m semi-finals. Thomas and Forde then placed eighth and ninth respectively in the final of the men’s 1500m.
The 400m final was won by Brazil’s Anderson Freitas in 45.03s. George clocked 46.15s. Fortune ran 12.29s in her event while Thomas and Forde stopped the clock at 4:02:20s and 4:02:36s respectively in their race which was won by Frederico Bruno in 3:39:96s.
One of Guyana’s representatives in the ring Eon Bancroft also lost his bout to Gabriel Maestro, 3-0. The competition continued yesterday with George running in the semis of the men’s 200m and the other pugilists, Theresa London and Dennis Thomas taking the ring.
