PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Test left-hander Darren Bravo led three batsmen with half-centuries but Trinidad and Tobago lost wickets late in the day, to concede some momentum to the Leeward Islands on the opening day of their Regional Four-Day match here Friday.
Playing in the day/night, third round affair at Queen’s Park Oval, the hosts finished on 263 for six after winning the toss and opting to bat.
Bravo scored 60, his second successive half-century of the tournament, while opener Evin Lewis top scored with 78 and Jonathan Augustus got 61 on first class debut. T&T looked en route to a massive score at 243 for three but the Leewards struck late in the day to claim three wickets for just 18 runs.
Seamer Tonito Willett has taken two for 51.
T&T were driven principally by three partnerships. Lewis and Adrian Barath (24) put on 56 for the first wicket while Lewis and Bravo added a further 105 for the second wicket.
The left-handed Lewis faced 165 balls in 203 minutes at the crease and hit 11 fours and a six while Bravo counted four fours and two sixes off 141 balls in 159 minutes.
When both fell within eight overs of each other to leave T&T on 178 for three, Augustus and Jason Mohammed (22) repaired the damage with a 65-run, fourth wicket stand.
The right-handed Augustus struck 12 fours in a breezy 66-ball knock.
