Former Organising Secretary of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major is prepared to take the current executives of the GFF to court for monies owed to him since 2012.
According to ‘Shanghai’ in a telephone interview with this publication on Saturday, he is owed approximately $1.2M which was used by the GFF “for the Golden Jaguars encampment and miscellaneous expenses during the CFU Cup.”
Major mentioned that his lawyer will be writing the federation today and if he does not receive a favorable response “we will take them to court.”
Reason
The Kashif and Shanghai co-founder contends that the Christopher Matthias led executive has disrespected him by increasing the stipends of its members even though they are indebted to him.
“Matthias and his executive has showed me no respect, how could they increase their stipend to 300-400%?” He came into power in a cash strapped situation and increased staff salaries knowing that they are in debt that is ridiculous.
When I was part of the GFF, a committee member would get a stipend of $27,000, now a committee member is receiving in excess of $100,000. How could you be in debt and increasing staff stipends”? Major questioned.
Major added that “Matthias is showing no interest in football just in the office.”
Shanghai also told Stabroek Sport that he will be flying to the Cayman Islands today to meet with FIFA’s vice president and president of CONCACAF, Jeffrey Webb.
“It is an embarrassment to see what is going on with football in Guyana” Major bemoaned. I will be trying to get a meeting with Mr. Webb because FIFA is sending money and nothing is going on, all the money is being used in the office.
Major further intimated that all is not well within the GFF since its General Secretary, Noel Adonis and Finance Controller, Charlene Bess have recently resigned.
