Chaos and fighting would mar the final round of group stage matches as the St. Winifred Secondary versus Tutorial High encounter was abandoned when the Milo/Petra Organization Schools Football tourney continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
With the scores locked at 2-1 in the favour of St. Winifred in the 57th minute, the reaction of a St. Winifred player towards a hard challenge on him by a Tutorial player, would ignite a full scale melee between both sides and their respective spectators.
The resulting skirmish which lasted for approximately two minutes forced the fixture to be abandoned as referees, respective coaches and tournament officials struggled to extinguish the physicality’s.
The police would quickly respond to the scene as the resulting perpetrators exited the ground, continuing the confrontation on Carifesta Avenue and inside the National Park.
The Lawmen would eventually nab approximately six individuals involved in the fracas as calm finally prevailed over the surroundings. Following the end of the mayhem, roughly three individuals were known to have been injured during the skirmish.
Prior to the commencement of the brawl, Andrew Holder had pushed St. Winifred into the early lead in the 7th minute.
Racing into the right side of the penalty box, Holder upon evading his marker with a cheeky flick would unleash a powerful curling left footed effort that settled into the top right hand corner of the woodwork.
The Woolford Avenue side would level the score line in the 32nd minute through a Edward Pereira strike that comically bounced over the advancing St. Winifred custodian and settled into the right hand side of the net.
St. Winifred would retake the lead in the 47th minute as Holder completed his double with a left sided strike from inside the box that settled into the bottom of the net.
Carmel Secondary humiliated seven member David Rose Secondary 16-0 in the opening matchup of the day. Marlon Nedd led the assault with strikes in the second, fifth, 22nd, 46th and 48th minutes while Moses Gritten netted in the 13th, 15th, 20th, 29th and 40th minutes.
Completing the lopsided score line was Tevin Curry in the 23rd and 54th minutes, Jovian Glen in the 26th and 34th minutes, Nicholas Kirton in the 26th minute and Shivanah Persaud in the 44th minute respectively.
In the final two fixtures, Kingston Secondary defeated Richard Ishmael 3-1 while Chase Academy lost to Queen’s College 2-0.
